Equipment used: 33 ton crane
Operator: Ron Slawosky
Rigger: Brennan
Project: To pick up, deliver and place a large rock at the Lethbridge Food bank in Alberta
In September 2014, Stampede Crane & Rigging, a div. of TNT Crane & Rigging Inc., took on a project that required the crew to go to a local farm on the southeast side of Lethbridge, Alberta, pick-up and transfer a large rock to the Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge. The rock was placed onsite to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Interfaith Food Bank Society.
Moving a rocks require specialty rigging to ensure a safe lift. Stampede dispatched their 33 ton crane to go to the local farm on the southeast side of Lethbridge to hoist, transport and place the rock. They set up, hoisted, and placed the rock off of the deck of the crane, belted the rock down, and safely transported it to the property of the Lethbridge Food Bank.
The crane operator and project manager, Ron Slawosky, believed that this project was a good way to help out the local food bank, who has been serving their community in Alberta for over 25 years.
Once the crew got the rock on site, the crane was set up was just outside of the food bank’s yard fence. They then carefully rigged the rock, hoisted it over the fence and placed it in the desired location of the food bank.
“Any time you are hoisting an awkward object like a rock, it is important to plan your rigging and look at all angles of safety to make sure things go smoothly.” Ron Slawosky – Crane operator and project manager for Stampede Crane.
The Lethbridge Food Bank was incredibly appreciative of the service that Stampede Crane delivered to help them move and place the rock on their property.
“We knew we wanted to do something big, and permanent to commemorate our 25th Anniversary, and a giant stone for our garden seemed to be the right fit. Getting it into the garden, however, was a challenge that I know we could’ve never overcome without the help of Stampede Crane. It is thanks to their generosity that generations to come will be able to celebrate our many years of serving our community.” Danielle McIntyre, Executive Director – Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge
